Pumpkin spice Moscow mule mocktail

Our most popular protein powder in the fall is our Bone Broth Protein Pumpkin Spice. While popular recipe requests using this protein involved pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin spice oatmeal and even pumpkin coffee cake, a pumpkin spice mocktail was a new one.

We were up to the challenge, as late summer and early fall is a great time to enjoy a pumpkin spice mocktail. In this case, we married it with a Moscow mule, for the main ingredients of the mule go very well with pumpkin. It’s also loaded with good nutrition.

What Is a Moscow Mule?

Traditionally a cocktail made with vodka, ginger beer and lime juice, the mocktail removes the vodka. Typically it’s served in a copper mug, which is both attractive and also preserves its cool temperature.

Even though Moscow is in its title, the Moscow Mule comes from America and references the two main ingredients. The ginger beer brings that kick “like a mule” while adding the popular Russian liquor vodka lends it the Moscow name.

Key Ingredients

A pumpkin simple syrup is whipped up to make this mocktail sing. With nutrient-rich pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie spice, it adds plenty of vitamin A and antioxidants.

Maple syrup and monk fruit are the sweeteners, and vanilla extract completes the taste profile for the simple syrup.

For the pumpkin spice mocktail, after the simple syrup comes fresh lime juice, full of vitamin C and flavor. Then sugar-free ginger beer (we went with Reed’s) adds that critical ginger flavor.

Lastly, featuring collagen types 1 and 3, Bone Broth Protein Pumpkin Spice adds a warming pumpkin flavor, plenty of protein, and supports a healthy gut, healthy nails and skin, as well as joint health.

These Moscow mule pumpkin spice mocktail ingredients deliver a well balanced, nutritious drink with just 76 calories, with 8 grams of carbohydrates, 1 gram of fat and 9 grams of protein. It also contains 103 percent Daily Value (DV) of vitamin A and nearly 20 percent DV of vitamin C.

How to Make a Pumpkin-Spiced Moscow Mule

The first step in this pumpkin spice mocktail is making the pumpkin simple syrup, which you probably will want to use all month long!

Heat a medium-sized saucepan over low heat and add in pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, maple syrup, water, vanilla extract and monk fruit sweetener. Stir frequently for a few minutes until everything is well combined.

Let cool to room temperature, then pour into an airtight glass container.

Next, juice two limes. Then in a high-speed blender, add the lime juice, four tablespoons of the simple syrup, and one scoop of Bone Broth Protein Pumpkin Spice. Blend until smooth and protein powder is fully combined, about 1-2 minutes.

(Store the reminder of the pumpkin simple syrup in the fridge. It will last up to 12 days.)

Add ice to a mug, ideally copper for the full Moscow mule effect. Pour in four ounces of ginger beer. You can go with regular ginger beer or get the just as tasty zero sugar ginger beer (Reed’s offers a great one). Add in the pumpkin drink mixture and lightly stir.

Add a lime wedge and serve.
