Matcha Lemonade

Matcha lemonade

A certain coffee shop makes a bunch of fun, colorful drinks, especially when summer is about to hit. The latest hyper popular one is matcha lemonade. However, like most of their drinks, they’re also typically loaded with sugar.

Instead, simply make your own matcha lemonade. It’s perfect for warm or hot days, for it combines that refreshing lemonade taste with the smooth energy boost you get from quality matcha. It’s also a beautiful light green color and can even work as a mocktail (though you probably shouldn’t have past the late afternoon because of its natural caffeine content).

That caffeine component is key, for many matcha aficionados switched over from coffee because they don’t get the occasional jittery feeling that coffee may produce. That’s certainly the case with the matcha powder that used in this recipe.

Quality Matcha Is Key

Matcha isn’t just any old green tea. It’s a high-grade, finely ground concentrated green tea that’s been used traditionally in Japanese tea ceremonies for hundreds of years.

Ancient Nutrition’s Ancient Elixirs Superfood Matcha is sourced from Japan. It’s full of antioxidants, plus caffeine and the amino acid L-theanine (a natural stress reliever).

Thanks to its polyphenol compounds called catechins, a type of antioxidant found in other superfoods, matcha offers a variety of powerful benefits. These include supporting increased energy, weight management (in conjunction with an overall healthy diet and lifestyle), immune system health and overall well-being.

Ancient Nutrition’s superfood matcha powder is paired with organic coffee cherry for 135 milligrams of caffeine. How does that compare to a cup of coffee? Well, eight ounces of coffee typically contains 95 milligrams of caffeine. Two shots of espresso, meanwhile, is around 130 milligrams.

This matcha powder also features the adaptogenic superfoods ashwagandha root and leaf extract, organic chaga mushroom extract and organic reishi mushroom extract. It truly earns that title of “Superfood Matcha.”

It also uses both medium chain triglycerides (from coconut) and organic coconut milk for healthy fats and as a natural energy booster.

The benefits of this superfood matcha powder include:

  • Supports healthy energy and reduces fatigue

  • Helps promote mental clarity and concentration

  • Promotes a positive mindset

  • Helps promote a healthy response to stress

How to Make Matcha Lemonade

First, it’s important to make matcha the right way. In a small bowl, add two tablespoons of water water and the matcha powder. Use a whisk or hand brother (or get fancy with a bamboo matcha whisk), then mix until the matcha forms a thick paste and dissolves.

How to make matcha

Set aside and let cool for about two to three minutes.

Juice one lemon to produce about two to three tablespoons of liquid. In a pitcher, add two cups of cold water, the lemon juice and two teaspoons of honey. Ideally, use raw honey for more benefits.

Whisk until well combined, then add in the matcha paste and stir until combined.

Add ice to two glasses and pour your matcha lemonade over the ice.

While matcha lemonade is best served fresh, it can last for up to three days covered in the refrigerator.
