Why Jordan Rubin Uses SBO Probiotics
By Jill Levy
June 29, 2021
Ancient Nutrition’s new SBO Probiotic products are made from probiotic strains that occur naturally in the soil, called soil-based organisms (SBOs).
The goal of creating our SBO Probiotics was to offer unique formulas that support the growth of normal microflora (bacteria) in the gut, healthy gastrointestinal function, digestive health and healthy immune system function.
Ancient Nutrition’s connection to SBOs is a personal one. Here is some background information about that personal connection. Co-Founder of Ancient Nutrition, Jordan Rubin, credits his use of SBO probiotics coupled with a Biblical/ancestral diet and overall healthy lifestyle for supporting his health journey during a difficult point in his life.
In his twenties, while navigating this difficult time, Jordan and his father, a naturopathic doctor, went on an extensive journey to seven countries, meeting with over 70 healthcare providers to seek their input.
Although Jordan tried 30 (!)different probiotics over the course of several years, he didn’t get the answers he was seeking. His father eventually introduced him to SBO probiotics at the same time that Jordan was working with a world-renowned nutritionist who specializes in Biblical diets.
In Jordan’s opinion, SBOs and his nutrient-dense diet and intentional lifestyle choices (as well as his strong faith in God and prayer) played a critical role in supporting a healthy gut–immune-system connection.
While Jordan is quick to point out that his journey is solely his own experience and everyone is different, he believes that nearly everyone can benefit from probiotic use, including SBO probiotics.
After this amazing experience, Jordan knew that he had to find a way to distribute and spread the word about the soil-based probiotics that had helped him so much.
Jordan believes that many people can benefit from taking a SBO probiotic for several reasons. First and foremost, it’s common to lack these organisms due to modern farming conditions; today’s food supply is mostly grown in nutrient-depleted soil, which makes it difficult to acquire enough natural soil-based probiotics.
Additionally, many people today consume an overall poor quality diet that lacks fermented foods, raw fruits and vegetables, all of which are the best dietary sources of probiotics, including SBOs. Throughout history, cultures all around the world relied on local, raw foods and probiotic-rich, fermented foods (like kimchi, kefir, sauerkraut, etc.) to support their health; however, this tradition has mostly been lost in modern times.
Finally, our culture’s obsession with hygiene and over-sanitization can, unfortunately, result in fewer microbes entering our bodies, which can lead to less bacterial diversity in our guts that normally has beneficial effects.
While SBOs can be taken in supplement form, they are also naturally found outdoors in the soil/dirt, as well as and on unprocessed/non-sanitized fruit and vegetables. The actual probiotic (or “good guy” gut bacteria) cultures found in our SBO Probiotic product line are lab grown, however, to ensure the quality.
Ancient Nutrition’s new SBO Probiotic products have been formulated to include diverse probiotic strains, each of which help to support your gut in a variety of ways, such as by reducing occasional bloating and constipation.
Here are the different yeast (that functions as a probiotic) and actual probiotic strains you’ll find in our products: Saccharomyces boulardii, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus coagulans and Bacillus clausii.
Another differentiator that sets our SBO Probiotics apart from other types of probiotic supplements is that they’ve been fermented, plus they are full of additional superfoods that can help to support healthy absorption and utilization.
Our products feature organic botanicals, herbs, mushrooms and seeds that have been traditionally used to support digestion. These ingredients not only support the digestion of probiotics, but can benefit other parts of the body, too.
You may have heard that you need to refrigerate probiotic supplements in order to keep them “alive.” But soil-based organisms are different and do not require refrigeration to be effective.
These are “survivable” probiotic strains, meaning they make it into your gut where they can colonize and go to work supporting your healthy immune system. All of this happens even when they are stored at room temperature.
Here are several key features of Ancient Nutrition’s new SBO Probiotic formulas:
Contains between 25 and 50 Billion CFUs* per serving (*at time of manufacturing)
Features Soil-Based Organisms (SBOs) plus prebiotics and postbiotics — we call this the “Trifecta Approach” because together, these organisms support our healthy immune systems in an amazing way
Shelf-stable (no need to refrigerate) and can survive higher temperatures and a harsh environment (such as stomach acid)
Feature a blend of superfoods to help support absorption
Our SBO Probiotic features solely soil-based, spore-forming organisms
You won’t find many probiotic products on the market that are made with multiple strains of bacteria species plus superfood herbs and botanicals; however, ours is. Here is the complete list of additional botanical ingredients found in SBO Probiotics:
