Hot Toddy Cocktail/Mocktail with Lemon Ginger
By Ethan Boldt
December 21, 2022
Holiday time of year or, to be honest, anytime it's cold outside, the hot toddy is a welcome cocktail or mocktail for you and your guests.
Contrary to the impression that it's an alcoholic drink from the south, the hot toddy originated far far away ... in India during the early 1600s. Controlled by the British Empire at the time, it was a hot drink made with fermented palm sap and was called a "taddy" in Hindi. Decades later, it became known as a "hot toddy" and usually featured hot water, certain spices, sugar and an alcohol.
These days in the U.S., that alcohol (especially in Tennessee where Ancient Nutrition is based) is whiskey.
We whip up the below recipe with classic hot toddy ingredients and will sometimes enjoy with whiskey or other times go without it. The warming, fun flavor is consistent with both versions.
A so-called secret ingredient we love to add to this hot toddy drink is our Multi Collagen Protein Gut Restore powder, which adds skin, joint and gut benefits to your day plus comes with an enticing lemon ginger flavor that marries perfectly for this recipe. It even features two forms of glutamine to support gut microflora, gut lining and gut integrity.
This is one of the easier cocktails/mocktails to make. Boil some water and pour into your favorite mug, leaving at least an inch below the top. Add one scoop of Multi Collagen Protein Gut Restore and froth/stir well.
Next, squeeze in the juice of one lemon wedge, one teaspoon of honey (local and raw is best!), optional whiskey (one to one and a half ounces) and stir together. Plop in one cinnamon stick and then let steep for five minutes.
